My Cleopatra

2 Jan

Let’s face it. When it comes to legendary women, Cleopatra was the ultimate.

She was powerful in terms of her empire. But she was powerful in terms of her interpersonal life, too.

I mean, this is the woman who brought men like Caesar and Antony to their knees. Not even the entire population of barbarian Europe could do that. And she did it with what I imagine were some very sultry brown eyes, and some shiny dark hair… and some extreme feminine wiles.

To me, she was much cooler than Mona Lisa, or Athena, or Cher, or Hillary Clinton. Because she had it all. There was nothing lacking: intelligence, beauty, personal power, political power, fertility, all mixed with a touch of ruthlessness that, to my mind, must have made her difficult to approach. And almost certainly unwilling to take out the garbage or make you a good cup of coffee without a motive.

Anyway, I believe there’s a little bit of Cleopatra in all women. And that’s kind of what this song is about, I suppose.

It’s the latest installment in a series of folk-rocky type tunes that seem to be emanating from my brain at the moment. Perhaps soon we can get back to some more pure folk and country, as God intended. Until then, I hope you enjoy.
